Distance Education and Independent Study coordinates and facilitates educational opportunities for students outside the traditional classroom. A variety of delivery methods allow students to earn undergraduate, graduate, high school and professional development credits and work toward degrees.

What's the Difference?

Distance Education

  • Primarily graduate programs and courses.
  • Admission to the university is required.
  • Semester-based courses.
  • Courses are live over the web (playback often available).

Independent Study

  • Primarily undergraduate, high school courses, and career enrichment certificates.
  • Admission to the university is not required.
  • Enrollment anytime with up to nine months to complete.
  • Courses are online and/or correspondence delivered.
